      Good for You, Ron Paul!

      Congressman Paul,

Thank you so much for your courage in standing up for WikiLeaks at a time when so many seem intent on killing the messenger. Your statement, “In a society where truth becomes treason, we are in big trouble.” should be posted around the world.

Just think what we now know about Afghanistan due to WikiLeaks: that the CIA operates a secret army, that US Special Forces are in Pakistan, that Task Force 373 was a secret hunt-and-kill operation, that corruption can’t be ended because the US ambassador says its the government that’s corrupt. Or Yemen: that we are bombing another country and lobbying to have Yemen’s leader take credit.

Dozens of these cables should be followed up with Congressional oversight investigations. Instead Republicans like Peter King, Mike Huckabee and Sarah Palin are calling for the death penalty and increased penalties for anyone providing “material assistance” to WikiLeaks, including the offering of legal advice. Democrats mostly are running for cover, or hoping the moment will pass. Cyberwarfare has been launched from a special Pentagon site without even a Congressional expression of interest. USAID employees are being warned not to print or retransmit any documents. Columbia University is warning its students not to post any documents if they hope for employment in the federal government.

This is one of those witch-burning moments. Thank you for standing up before the flames.

      Sincerely,

      TOM HAYDEN

While I like the "spirit" of Ron Paul's statement, "In a society where truth becomes treason, we are in big trouble", it should be noted that Mr. Assange is an Australian and not a US citizen. Assange couldn't commit treason again the USG even if the wanted to. It does make you wonder if Congress People should be required to pass a civics test before they can run for office?

The latest round of Wikileaks has proven interesting, when vital nation secrets are disclosed, remember Valerie Plame, people walk with impunity. When diplomats and States People are embarrassed they resort to trumped up charges and hunt down the "Truth Teller" with an assassins warrant. Talk about serious Moral Overreach. My high school speech and debate teacher once said "the thing people fear most is to be embarrassed publicly", ...was she ever right. Our hats are off to you for your colossal efforts Mr. Assange.

The whole charade has prove another misdirection as we watch capitalism burn it's own house to the ground. Maybe, just maybe Assange will go on to inspire others to "dump their files" on the Internet in a time when the security state reigns supreme.

      your brother in arms,
      Phlipn

      Respectfully Phlipn:

Australia is one of the coalition nations with combat troops in Afghanistan. Current Prime Minister Julia Gillard defended the her country's participation to Parliament recently, saying gains have been made. Green Party leader Bob Brown criticized her claim that gains have been made by citing the chilling examples provided to Wiki Leaks by those moved by their conscience. The only gains thus far documented are in the level of ferocity, murder, civilian deaths, and violations of the Geneva Convention under the tenure of our Nobel Peace Prize-winning President ... and the length of this War, which as a part of the diabolically named Global War on Terror, recently clipsed the length of the Soviet entanglement which was a trap set and sprung by the Carter and Reagan Administrations, during which the fighters killing U.S. soldiers were trained in protracted guerrilla warfare.

Dr. Paul is one of the few elected representatives who haven't betrayed their oath to protect & defend the Constitution, and now that Assange has been extradited the United States of America has passed all fail-safes on the road to authoritarian despotism with the support of a clear majority of the population compared to the plurality of roughly 35% which the National Socialists rode to power in Weimar Germany.

Your brother - though not in arms since violence and the martial language of conflict unending cannot be reversed by more violence...only by the courage shown in the faces of the people of Iran. Do we have the backbone to resist bodily the destruction of one of the only countries ever started with a good idea? We shall know soon...since as Naomi Klein points out, the transition to totalitarianism occurs in an accelerating process. Tom Hayden could teach us much about agentes provacateurs' role in incitement of violence, from verbal taunts to a brick thrown on cue, which caused the implosions of many of the movements of the 1960s
