Support Significant Withdrawal from Afghanistan Now

Now, more than ever, is the time for peace activists to hit the street corners. Make the Good Noise.

Tell your Congressperson, Senators and mainstream media that you want at least 50,000 troops to start coming home this July. Tell them that the Pentagon's proposed token withdrawal, even a reduction of 30,000 troops--equivalent to ending Obama's 2009 surge--is unacceptable.

Make it known to the Obama campaign in your community, and join the movement of petitioners started in San Mateo, California, this week after a speech by Tom Hayden. The petition is described below by Ashleigh Evans, co-chair, San Mateo County Democracy for America:

Time is running out to make our voices heard! President Obama will announce in the next two or three weeks the level of American troop withdrawals beginning in July. With the 2012 election looming, it is unlikely there will be further policy changes before November of next year.

I created a petition to President Barack Obama (through SignOn.org), which says:

"We support a policy of complete withdrawal from Afghanistan by 2012 and a transfer of funds to domestic priorities.  We urge you to begin this July with the withdrawal of 50,000 or more American troops."
