Mississippi Voters Deny “Personhood” to Fertilized Egg, Could Corporations Be Next?

With a last-minute grass roots surge, Mississippi voters rejected an initiative by anti-abortion extremists to confer "personhood" on fertilized eggs. The measure had support from both political parties in the final campaign stretch, but was defeated 58-42%. The measure was a direct challenge to the Roe v. Wade ruling of 1973.

Sure to be heartened by the Mississippi vote are opponents of Citizens United, the 2010 Roberts Supreme Court ruling affirming corporate "personhood" status. If fertilized eggs are not "persons", many will ask, how can corporations be "persons" when they are brought into existence by Supreme Court rulings and corporate lobbyists?
