Questions for the Florida Primary
Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich should be asked whether they favor war with Iran. The question is an urgent one. War is being urged on the Republican candidates by John Yoo, author of the Bush Administration’s “torture memos” in a frank opinion piece:
“Because of the Obama administration's reluctance to confront this looming threat, others—such as the Republican presidential candidates—must begin preparing the case for a military strike to destroy Iran's nuclear program.”
Romney is close to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his former business partner. Gingrich’s main contributor is a pro-Israeli hawk and Netanyahu ally, Sheldon Adelson, the casino magnate.
It is irresponsible to exploit a presidential campaign to advance a military confrontation with Iran.
Anyone who can ask or shout or submit these questions should do so in the Florida primary:
- Are you urging a war against Iran waged either by Israel, the United States, or a combination?
- What, in your opinion, would be acceptable consequences for the United States?
- How many, in your estimate, would be killed in Israel, Iran or surrounding countries in the region?
- What would The Day After look like, in your opinion?
